Dining Hall Guidelines: Respect, Safety, and Fairness
To keep our dining space welcoming and safe, here are a few non-negotiable expectations. They’re here to protect everyone’s experience - so let’s stick to them together.
1. Respectful Conduct
Treat everyone, students, staff, and guests, with kindness and consideration.
Disruptive or disrespectful behavior isn’t okay and will be addressed.
Let’s keep this space positive and inclusive for all.
2. Swipe-In Is Always Required
Everyone must swipe in before entering the dining hall, no exceptions.
Even if you’re just grabbing water or walking with a friend, you still need to swipe.
Using the dining hall as a shortcut? That’s not allowed.
Why this matters:
- It keeps things fair for those on meal plans.
- It avoids awkward moments of asking if someone swiped.
- It helps maintain a respectful and welcoming vibe.
Swipe rules:
- Dine-in = 1 swipe
- Takeout = 1 swipe
- Dine-in + takeout = 2 swipes
- You can’t dine in and then grab food to go without swiping again.
3. Food Safety & Allergy Awareness
To keep our dining hall safe and inclusive for everyone, please follow these important guidelines:
- Always use a clean plate when returning for more food. Reusing a plate can spread germs and cause cross-contamination—especially dangerous for students with allergies or dietary restrictions.
- The gluten-free line is reserved for students with medically documented gluten intolerance or celiac disease. If that’s not you, please use the standard home-style line.
These steps help:
- Prevent cross-contamination
- Protect students with serious dietary needs
- Maintain a safe and respectful dining environment for all
